1 August 2007
No internet, didn't need to watch the weather, so I got going pretty
quickly. Figures, I only have about 200 miles to go.
It was mid-80's
starting out, I pretty much opened all the vents. Lots of butterflies
flittering around the agricultural areas, several of which ended up in
my face. Once again I took 115 around Brawley. I'm not sure it's
quicker, but I don't like Brawley.
Coming out of Westmoreland, it
looked like rain ahead. I debated changing gloves, but didn't right
away. About six miles before 78 turned west, it started coming down--I
pulled over and changed gloves, and it was the heaviest rain of the
trip--I couldn't even see the numbers on GPS. By the time I got to the
turn, it had slacked off quite a bit, and a couple miles up the road I
pulled over and changed back to regular gloves.
The rest of the trip was pretty uneventful,
except mileage sucks on California gas. Pulled into the driveway at
1130.
State:
California.
223 GPS miles (11427 total), 57.3 moving average, 80.6 max.
