Marathon County Maple, Day 2
We 'gathered' yesterday (pretty much every day, if the weather's
conducive to the sap running).
This is pretty sloppy; it was drizzling rain, which makes for muddy
conditions. But the show must go on...
Rake the remaining coals into a nice bed, then...
Stuff the firebox with as much wood as you can. (I was wrong about
how long that fire lasts, four hours is more like it.)
Then refill the pan with more sap. (Note the net bag on the end of the
discharge pipe to keep [most of] the crud out.)
This morning the temperature's down and the wind is howling. Good
day to do something inside.
