Back in the sugarbush...
Some tapped holes don't run as well as they should, for whatever reason;
this one was too high and too close to a knot/bruise, so Mike is moving
it over and down.
Use a hatchet to smooth off the bark so the drill has a place to
start. (You can see the old tap just to the left of the wet patch on the
trunk.)
The old way to make a hole, using a brace and bit. Now we mostly use
a cordless drill.
No picture: Use the hammer end of the hatchet to tap in the tap, and
hang the pail.
