Summer Soiree, Day 02
The order of the day was to split some firewood--some of the chunks would fit in the furnace,
but burn hotter split.
Xavier built the splitter some years ago; it consists of a hydraulically raise-able table,
and a hydraulic ram to push the chunks into a blade.
We split for a few hours, until a particularly obstinate chunk just-didn't-want-to-go.
Hydraulics overwhelmed steel (and not-prime-welds), warping the ram spacer.
We used the ram and some judicious positioning to warp it back to almost square,
pondered a bit, then decided to fill the gap with some chunks of steel, welded in.
The result isn't pretty, but should work, at least for a while.
