Summer Soiree, Day 27
We weren't
really done yesterday, there are always a few niggling things to take care of.
Apropos of nothing in particular, I thought a torch-heated-to-break-the-rust-bonds bolt head looked hot...
Many of the clamps holding the tines were loose, tightening them (without the torch work) often resulted in this:
We bent some of these...
...into shape with more torch work and installed them.
Then we fork-lifted the assembly out onto the driveway and hooked it up.
It
did make marks in the ground...
...but a closer examination shows the tines aren't really digging, they're sort of floating.
We realized that some of the iron we'd removed was there to lower the tines and keep them down, so we took a piece of that, figured out what angle we wanted them at, and bolted it in. It survived for a few seconds before the mounting geometry said "Sorry, guys..." and gave up.
We dragged it back to the garage and started re-engineering a fix; we'll be working on that today...it's raining, anyway.
