A late finish yesterday, combined with sleeping in a bit, would make for a late start today. On top of that, my original destination hadn't answered my solicitation email, so I had to re-do my route planning.
Off and running at 10:15(!)--this can not continue! But I'll be farther down the road than I would have been, if I can actually make it to my newly calculated stop for the day.
The quickest way out of Michigan would have been via I-96, so I continued east on US10 instead. I'd calculated where I thought I'd need fuel, but when I got to Baldwin, the low fuel light hadn't even come on, so I continued on to Evart, where the pump card readers weren't working. Good thing I'm not in a hurry, 'specially since a garrulous oldster wanted to know if I was coming from the RA Rally (just finished in Petoskey), where I was going, nice bike, etc.
Split off from 10 down US127, across to Flint and down US23. That delayed first gas stop screwed up my second scheduled one, but it shouldn't matter--this isn't the barren west. It did sort of screw up my routes, though, as that stop was somewhat off the road, and GPSs do like to hit their waypoints. Eventually, they mostly all decided to continue on (except for the Nuvi, I had to manually readjust its expectations).
Made my second stop in Dundee, crossed into Ohio and skirted Toledo, dropped down to US224 and headed east again. I had been aiming to get through Akron before stopping, but a check with the Nuvi found a cluster of motels near a Wal*Mart, and it was already after 1800, so I pulled off in Wadsworth.
There was a brand new Comfort Inn where the Budgetel Inn was supposed to be; circling around didn't reveal much of anything else (I've got something against Holiday Inn Express), so that's where I am. Even AAA didn't get it much under a C-note (plus taxes), but I'm reluctant to mount up again once I've stopped.
Easy walk to Wal*Mart, where the corn was 30 cents an ear, and the worst so far--the Fair's was better.
Motel: $106.03
