Summer Sojourn, Day 06
Sunday was (mostly) a day of rest, and a day for visiting.
Before any festivities started, though, peas needed picking, and then
shelling—we ended up with maybe a gallon, some of which will go into a
childhood favorite, summer pea soup; back in the day it had potatoes
robbed from still-growing plants, onions, and the
coup de gras, beaten
eggs drizzled into the hot soup so it cooked in threads.
Some of us took a walk back into the sugar bush—remember these?
After supper, Mike showed us a trail he's started cutting on the north
side of "Hank Lake," where we got this view of it.
Back in the 50s Daddy (Hank) had a bulldozer in to scrape out a swampy area and build a
berm on the south side of it. It now shows up in online
maps, if you
zoom in far enough.
