Summer Sojourn, Day 10
I've been aware of the big annual air show held in Oshkosh for most of
my life; it seemed a shame not to check it out since I was in the
general area this year; both X and Mike were amenable, so off we went.
It was the zoo these kind of things generally are: after we parked and
followed the stream of people into the grounds there was a queue to have
backpacks,
et al, checked, and after a cursory glance into my 'purse' we
schlepped on through. It wasn't until we'd walked past a couple of
buildings and standing exhibits that we realized we were already
into
the show, confirmed by a query to a helpful guard, who pointed at a
building
way over there as the place to pick up our wristbands.
Now legal, we wandered here and there checking things as fancy took us,
ultimately among the aircraft, even into some. There were homebuilts,
one-offs, pseudo-military stuff, and
lots of vintage war birds. All
the while, planes were taking off and landing; rides were offered in a
classic Ford Tri-motor, and even some of the military stuff: a B-17 and
a B-25—the B-25 was priced at $400.
Sated by mid-afternoon, we followed the GPS back to the truck and headed
down south-er to Beaver Dam, where X had found a 'box blade' for his
tractor, making the trip a two-fer.
Then home; a full day!
