Summer Sojourn, Day 17
On our way to the fair we stopped by Mike's place and found him
pondering a lack of internet to his house—the modem and primary router
are in his shop, as it has a clearer line of sight to the broadcast
antenna on a silo, about a mile distant, and there's a Cat 6 line buried
in conduit to the house.
Fortunately, he had a test set, which showed a break in one of the
lines, but crimping on new connectors didn't fix the problem. Also
fortunately, only two (of the four) twisted pairs in the cable are
actually used, so we created the T-568-M (for Martin) standard,
isolating the green pair and got him up and running.
This took
way longer than it should have, and since rain was predicted
for mid-afternoon, we delayed our fair visit for another day.
Just as that rain was getting serious, this rig showed up to spread some
fertilizer on the newly harvested hay field.
The mystery machine needs a fuel tank, and the fuel tank needs custom
mounts. (The tank's been empty long enough that there was no hint of
vapor therein.)
