Mid-Wis Maple, Day 04
While we were breakfasting, a massive snow flurry blew through, although it was too cold to stick to anything—it all blew away.
To mitigate some of that cold, it seems a good idea to have some heat back in the bus we use as a sugar shack. To that end...
We're using the core of the water heater we replaced two years ago, starting by cutting out the chimney that ran through the center and cutting off the top.
Some scrap-ish steel plate will be cut up to make the door end, most cutting done with a torch, and the edges touched up as needed with an angle grinder.
This shows the finished end, featuring the damper, which rotates to uncover more or less of the holes underneath, as needed.
Some more scrap makes up the feet--they're mounted and braced, sorry I didn't get a picture of the almost finished product. I'll remedy that in tomorrow's missive.
