Mid-Wis Maple, Day 05
We finished up the bus heater by welding the legs on, then bracing them with some more scrap, then dropped some bolts into the remaining holes and welded them in, too.
A chunk of steel almost covered the hole in the bottom, that got welded in, too.
Then X torched a hole in the top for a smoke stack...
...a bore liner from one of the Allis motors brazed into the hole. It's not perfectly straight, but brazing cast iron is ... challenging. It'll work...
We hauled it back to the sugarbush, installed it and fired it up. Still need to make a better interface to fill the gaps in the window.
As long as we were back there, we figured we might as well tap some trees--here's Mike, drilling a hole.
We actually managed to finish—at least we ran out of pails and taps, so we must be done, right?
It snowed last night, and we hadn't covered the pails, so I'm not sure what we'll find when we go back today.
