Summer Soiree, Day 21
It's been pretty dry lately, but some things grow anyway. We aren't sure if this is a zucchini or some kind of squash, but it's huge.
Although their thorns are nasty, bull thistles have pretty flowers..
Bern is up from Dubuque; she wanted to go for a walk in the woods, starting with crossing Mike's new bridge, and a view of Hank Lake...
...where we espied a Sandhill Crane.
There are paths, originally blazed with a horse-drawn 'stone boat' then kept clear for tractors,
et al.
The yellow sign is guidance for snowmobiles in the winter.
Then back to Xavier's, where we broke out the crossbow for some target practice; bad technique on the second 'stringing' broke the hold-down spring clip. (Which also happened a couple of years ago, but we forgot.) So Xavier snipped and bent leftover aluminum flashing into something that looked right...
...and that served for the rest of the session.
Actually, we think it worked better—and it's red, which may serve as a reminder next time... plus, we made extras.
